The Nigerian Army has dismissed claims by the deadly Boko Haram extremists that the 43 farmers who were killed couple of days ago was a result of the army arresting one of their members.
Boko Haram released a video admitting to the killings of the 43 farmers in which they explained the farmers had being providing information of their movement in the area to the military.
Defence Media Operations Coordinator, Maj. Gen. John Enenche who was giving updates on the operations of the army within the past week stated the group (Boko Haram) are given this reason just to put fear in the residents of the area.
The truth is that whenever they are losing ground as a result of the military activities, this is what they resort to.
It is a fallacy because we killed one of them and that the farmers gave information about them, but the likelihood is wickedness.
They want to use that to instill fear in the minds of the people because they have seen the governor trying to make sure that people return to their homes.
Our message here to the general public is that they should not be discouraged and that we are moving forward and with your cooperation, we are going to end this menace.”
