Mwanret Daspan, a social worker kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State, has been released after being held captive for 20 months.
On Monday, 21 December 2020, a 29-year-old Plateau State indigene working in Maiduguri was kidnapped.
On August 12, 2022, she and two other victims were rescued by troops from the 242 Battalion, Sector 3 OPHK in the Mongonu local government area of Borno State.
While welcoming Daspan home at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, on Monday, August 22, Governor Simon Lalong, who was represented by the Deputy, Professor Sonni Tyoden, said only God knows what she went through in the hands of her captors, adding that it is only the grace of God that has kept Mwanret Daspan alive.

While welcoming her home on behalf of the government and people of Plateau State, the Governor noted that it was a traumatic situation, as Mwanret must have suffered excruciating emotional and mental torture at the hands of the terrorists.
Lalong emphasized that many innocent people have been held captive and have never returned to the warm embrace of their families, and he urged Nigerians to pray for God’s intervention in the country’s security situation.
He emphasized that Mwanret’s case is one of several in the state, recalling how a Christian cleric from the state spent months in the hands of Boko Haram before being released.

Lalong also directed the Commissioner for Health, his counterpart for Women Affairs, and the Secretary to the State Government to work with the Daspan family to provide immediate assistance to the victim.
Monday Daspan, who spoke on behalf of the family, thanked God for their daughter’s safe return after 20 months in captivity.
He recalled when she contacted the family and said she was in captivity but had been taken to Chad Republic.

He stated that the family is grateful to the Federal and Plateau State governments, as well as men and women of goodwill, for the warm welcome given to their daughter, and prayed that only God would reward them for their love and care.
