Akindele-Bello Olufunke Ayotunde (born August 24, 1977), also known as Funke Akindele or Jenifa, is a talented Nigerian film actress, businesswoman, and producer.

She was a regular on the sitcom I Need to Know from 1998 to 2002, and she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2009.

She became famous for her role in the film Jenifa, which earned her the nickname Jenifa. Her fame was boosted by the Omo Ghetto trilogy.

Early Life and Education

Funke Akindele was born in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria, on August 24, 1977.

She is the second of three siblings (two girls and one boy). Her mother is a physician, and her father is a retired school principal. Her sister’s name is Abimbola Maria Akindele.

Funke Akindele went to Grace Children School in Gbagada, Lagos. She graduated from the former Ogun State Polytechnic, now known as Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, with an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication. She graduated from the University of Lagos with a law degree.

Career

Funke Akindele rose to prominence after appearing from 1998 to 2002 in the popular United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)-sponsored sitcom I Need to Know. Bisi, a curious but brilliant secondary school student, was played by her. Funke Akindele’s breakthrough came in 2008, when she starred in the film Jenifa.

In January 2018, knowledgebase reported that Funke Akindele would make her Hollywood debut in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War because she was listed as a member of the cast on IMDb.
