The 27-year-old Harambee Star played for the Spanish team for an entire season in the previous campaign.

Ismael Gonzalez, a midfielder for Real Murcia, has left the club ahead of the upcoming Primera Division RFEF – Group 2 season.

The 27-year-old Kenyan international left the Spanish team after playing for them for one season, during which he racked up 1,273 minutes distributed across 20 games, starting 15 of them, and scored one goal.

Real Murcia announced on their official website that Ismael Athuman will not be returning to the first team for the next 2022–2023 campaign.

Gonzalez played youth football for CD Maspalomas, UD Vecindario, and UD Las Palmas. He was born in San Bartolome de Tirajana, Las Palmas, Canary Islands, to a Kenyan father and a Spanish mother. In 2013, he underwent fruitless interviews with Manchester City.

Gonzalez began playing for the reserves in Segunda Level B and Tercera Division after making his senior debut with Las Palmas’ C-team during the 2014–15 season. On December 5, 2015, Gonzalez agreed to a loan agreement with third division club CP Cacereno until the end of the campaign.

Gonzalez was promoted to Las Palmas’ first team in Segunda Division on October 5, 2020, after spending the entire preseason with the main group. He made his professional debut on December 5 when he started a 0-0 away tie against SD Ponferradina.

Later, in August 2021, he relocated to Murcia, where he scored his first goal against Alzira. Midway through May 2016, Gonzalez got his first summons from Kenya for an Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Congo. On May 31, 2016, he made his debut against Sudan.

His final game for Kenya was at the 2019 Afcon finals in Egypt, where the Harambee Stars were eliminated after losing to Senegal and Algeria in addition to Tanzania in their final match.
