Julia Stiles earned her BA in English Literature from Columbia University in 2005.


When Julia Stiles was eleven years old, she decided to pursue a career in acting. Julia Stiles used to act at New York’s La MaMa Theatre Company.

I Love You, I Love You Not was the actress’s debut film role, which she played in 1996. She went on to star in films such as The Devil’s Own and Wide Awake. She then went on to perform the major role in Wicked.

In the film 10 Things I Hate About You, Julia Stiles made her debut as Katarina ‘Kat’ Stratford. She won an MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Female Performance for the part.

Julia Stiles appeared in Eve Ensler’s theater production of The Monologues. She played Viola in a Shakespeare in the Park production of Twelfth Night in 2002.

In 2004, the actress starred in David Mamet’s play Oleanna. The show took place at the Garrick Theatre. She starred as Jeannie in Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig in 2011.

Julia Stiles dated actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt in college, and the two shared a room in John Jay Hall. Between 2011 and 2015, she was in a relationship with actor David Harbour.

In 2010, she was honored by the Columbia College Graduates Association with the John Jay Award, an annual honorary award presented to five alumni for professional achievements.

Julia Stiles has also worked for Habitat for Humanity in Costa Rica, constructing houses, and with Amnesty International to raise awareness about the horrific conditions of unaccompanied minors in immigration detention.
