His Career
Suge Knight was a football lineman and bodyguard before co-founding ‘Death Row Records’ with rapper and producer Dr. Dre. He was sentenced to prison for violating parole on the night ‘Tupac Shakur’ was murdered, and the label was embroiled in numerous legal battles. He later ran into financial difficulties and was sentenced to additional prison time.
Suge Knight was also a key figure in the massive commercialization of gangsta rap. As a result, the record label’s first two album releases in 1992 and 1993, Dr. Dre’s ‘The Chronic’ and Snoop Dogg’s ‘Doggystyle,’ are credited with this achievement. He played collegiate football at the ‘University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)’ before beginning his music career.
He then played defensive end for the Los Angeles Rams as a substitute during the 1987 player strike. Tupac Shakur was sentenced to four and a half years in prison in 1995. He made a deal with him in October of that year, paying his bail and releasing him from prison while signing him to ‘Death Row Records.’ In 1996, the label also released 2Pac’s most famous commercial hit, ‘All Eyez on Me.’
A group led by Suge Knight and Tupac Shakur assaulted Orlando Anderson, a member of the Southside Compton Crips gang, after leaving a Mike Tyson boxing match in Las Vegas in September. After three hours, someone fired a shot into the car Tupac Shakur was driving, killing him. Orlando Anderson has since been named the primary suspect.
Furthermore, after Tupac Shakur’s death, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg left ‘Death Row Records.’ The label faded over time and was quickly replaced. Similarly, allegations surfaced that he used intimidation and violence in his business operations, in addition to recruiting gang members.
Suge Knight spent a few years in prison from the late 1990s to the early 2000s on assault charges and related probation and parole violations.
Suge Knight will be eligible for parole for the first time in July 2037. Furthermore, he has had numerous health issues since his incarceration in 2015, including being hospitalized for blindness. In 2017, blood clots were also an issue. He has not attended his courting hearings due to health concerns.
His Personal Life
Suge Knight’s personal life was turbulent. As a result, during his prime years, he dated and even married two women. He was previously involved with actress ‘Bernice Burgos.’ In the mid-1990s, he began dating Misa Hylton.
In the 1980s and 1990s, he was linked to Sharitha Lee. As a result, he met her for the first time at a high school party. The couple had a rocky relationship. In 1987, Sharitha Lee obtained a restraining order against him for chopping off her hair. They reconciled and rekindled their relationship after some time.
Sharitha Lee made a significant contribution to Death Row Records at the time.
They eventually married and had a daughter named Arion Knight. He claimed Sharitha Lee was responsible for Tupac Shakur’s death in 2007. He claimed he was the intended target, but the bullet instead struck Tupac. She, on the other hand, dismissed his allegations as baseless.
Taj Knight, Bailei Knight, Suge Jacob Knight, Sosa Knight, Legend Knight, Posh Knight, Arion Knight, and Andrew Knight are Suge Knight’s eight children.
He was sentenced to 28 years in prison, which means he will be released in 2037. Is he still living? It should be noted that Suge Knight is not dead, but rather very much alive.
